Love. Death. Dreams. Conspiracy. Escapism. Homelessness. All put under the poetic microscope of Harry Katz’s original songwriting. With a distinct blend of classic soul and rock and roll, his uniquely raspy voice feels like the smooth veritas of an un-pulled cigarette, laying over a tight and pounding 10 piece band that turns brass into gold. His lyrics appear at first to be simple and fun, but as you go deeper into a familiar and yet fresh catalog of music, you’ll find the feeling of home on the edge of a razor. With Harry Katz, something far darker and more poignant is revealed, disguised as the most fun you can have seeing a live band. The Pistachios are preparing a live EP and a studio single. A demo is available on their website.
MAWD is the moniker of California musician Madeleine Mathews. Citing contemporary acts such as The Head and the Heart, The Staves, First Aid Kit, and the Alabama Shakes as influences, MAWD’s sound gravitates towards an eclectic mix of genres including indie folk, folk rock, retro rock, cosmic Americana, with a touch of pure rock n’ roll. The soulful, textured timbre of MAWD is diverse and ranges anywhere from a breathy and sultry folk/blues vibe to a powerful Janis Joplin-esque/Karen O. belt. Born and bred in Northern California, Madeleine made her mark around her hometown of Placerville by playing her original songs at weekly local open mic nights. Recently graduated with a BA in Music (focusing in music industry), Madeleine found a community in her college’s (California State University, Chico) music department and blossoming local scene while fronting and writing for numerous bands. Winning local singer/songwriter competitions and playing at all of Chico’s top venues, including two sold out shows at the renowned Laxson Auditorium (capacity 1,200) (for an Abbey Road Tribute Show) which has pulled artists and speakers ranging from Brian Wilson, Mavis Staples, Gloria Steinem, and many more, Now recording under the pseudonym MAWD, Madeleine is working with Roger Gisborne of Los Angeles based record label Sound x 3 and The Cave Studio owner/producer/songwriter Josiah Mezzaschi (Deap Vally, Built to Spill, Rilo Kiley, Kate Nash, The Jesus and the Mary Chain) to refine her sound and record her second EP. With a little over a year under her belt promoting herself as MAWD, Madeleine has already toured to SXSW to play numerous corporate gigs, opened for Larkin Poe at a sold out show at The Hotel Cafe, opened for Robby Krieger (of The Doors) at The Gibson Showroom, toured to Sweden and all over Northern and Southern California, and that's just touching the surface. She's had her music spun on KCSN 88.5 LA Buzzbands Hour multiple times, featured in various music blogs including The Line of Best Fit, LA Weekly, Live Nation's One's To Watch, BuzzbandsLA, and has been added to several indie blog Spotify playlists as well as an official Spotify playlist (Fresh Finds: Six Strings) for her song "Summer in a Dream". MAWD has been making a name for herself in the short time she's been in LA, playing multiple shows per month with her incredibly talented backing band "The MAWD Squad" and is becoming known for her powerful and energetic live performances.
Brenda Carsey delivers an engaging, energetic show, seamlessly mixing a unique blend of Alternative Soul and Progressive Pop. Carsey has an unmistakable sound that is modern and unique while some how simultaneously a retro call to eras gone by. Carsey plays both piano and guitar. She performs both solo and as a full band that ranges from a 4 piece to a 9 piece depending on the show. As a band, the group is led by songstress and keyboardist Brenda Carsey and grooved out by a rotating line-up of phenomenal musicians. Carsey’s Voice is, in a word, uninhibited, mixing a syrupy sweet sound with a beautiful darkness and a vocal range with a potential of virtuosity. This Los Angeles, CA based artist has played at heavy hitting music festival Lightning in a Bottle (2017) opening for The California Honeydrops and Orgone, Feed LA Festival (2016) opening for Daniel Lanois and Lantz Lazwell, and Echo Park Rising Festival (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)! Carsey has toured the entire Western US from San Diego to Seattle, to Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and also Nashville and New York. She has grooved and swooned on the stages of The Teragram Ballroom (opening for Chris Ayer), The Hotel Cafe (headlined), The Bootleg Theater (opening for Karmic), The Moroccan Lounge (co-headlining with Livingmore), The Satellite, Harvard & Stone (headlined + residency) and more. She will stop you in your tracks with poetic lyrics, fluid melodies, engaging chords progressions, funky rhythms, and a voice filled with passion and soul. Carsey's first full-length studio album Solitary Refinement dropped July 16th 2017. The album features the Awe and was engineered and co-produced by Brian Frederick of Hybrid Studios and Stacks FX, who has worked with names like DJ Quik, Whiz Khalifa, Isabella Summers (the Machine of Florence + the Machine), and the Backstreet Boys on their 20th anniversary record.
