Last In Class
Last In Class
Last In Class is a raw, rock ‘n’ roll four-piece featuring four Eastside L.A.-based musicians with roots deep in that community’s rich indie rock soil. They are singer/songwriter Emily Wilder, drummer Charlie Wadhams, lead guitarist Chris Watson and bassist Jessica Gelt.

Together for a little over five-months, the band has already holed up in a dark downtown basement studio to record a full-length album, which is in the process of being mixed and mastered. It has also won a devoted fan base with energetic live shows at prominent venues including the Troubadour, Satellite and the Silverlake Lounge.

The songs were written by Wilder while she and Gelt shared a tiny walk-up studio apartment in Echo Park, nursing broken hearts and smoking too many cigarettes.

Wilder and Gelt are formerly of the jangly sweet, punk band, Wet & Reckless, which was named one of L.A.’s hottest girl bands by the L.A. Weekly in 2011. Gelt is also the former bassist for underground legends, The Movies—a band known for its powerful stage shows and anthemic rock ballads. The Movies was signed to Houston Party Records in Spain, and remains a touchstone in the heady Silver Lake scene that bred it, with bands like Seasons and Grammy nominees the Silversun Pick Ups covering its music.

Wadhams was also a former drummer in The Movies and has established himself as one of L.A.’s most beloved indie singer/songwriters. In addition to his eponymous solo project, Wadhams was a founding member of Rex Aquarium; currently plays with the country-tinged rock band Willoughby with Black Keys’ guitarist Guy Seyffert; and is one-half of the melodic band Sweet Hearts, which recently released a buzzy, love-laced EP.

Watson is also a well-respected singer/songwriter who fronts the hard-hitting rock band Russian Bones. He toured the world as a guitarist for actress and musician Juliette Lewis’s powerhouse garage rock band Juliette and the Licks.

With lyric-driven songs that resonate on a gut level and speak to the universal experience of love lost and found, Last In Class is swiftly grabbing the attention of musicians and music-lovers, with plans for an EP and music video forthcoming.

TS and The Past Haunts
TS and The Past Haunts
Formed out of the demise of Boston indie/punk rock royalty, TS & The Past Haunts came to be through mutual friends sharing common interests. Travis Shettel (TS/Totally Travis), guitarist, singer and ring-leader of the band Piebald, met The Duke Spirit (Shangri-La Records) when he was invited to take on tour manager duties for the band during one of their first US tours. Acting as a US Ambassador-of-sorts for the band, a friendship was formed and The Duke Spirit soon learned of Travis' musical past. After asking TS to join them both on the road and in the studio playing keys and percussion, it would only be a matter of time before they would return the favor. Travis and The Duke Spirit knuckled down in between their tours of Australia and the UK and recorded a handful of his songs; learning, writing and recording along the way.

Since the Dukes have their own schedules full with... well, The Duke Spirit, Travis wanted an outlet to perform the songs live. The recordings with The Dukes were a catalyst for the formation of a true band. He found his rhythm section in Ben (drums) and Heather (bass) Heywood, a married duo who front bands of their own (Summer Darling and Kissing Cousins, respectively). The power trio version of TS & THE PAST HAUNTS has been busy; playing shows and writing songs. In the very near future, they will be heading north to Sacramento to record a full length album with Robert Cheek at the tape-op darling studio, The Hangar. They plan to record live to capture the energy and rawness of their live performances. The new batch of songs are energized blasts of dark rock that still maintain pop sensibilities
Dead Dawn
Dead Dawn
Los Angeles based band making music for true Angelenos. For the souls of these streets beyond the neon signs.

Founding members China Morbosa [vocals] and Abilene Fawn [guitar] began Dead Dawn in the summer of 2010,
in an old Echo Park house.

Birthed was a breath of something true. Something real. And real loud. 5-Track is on bass and Chris Kennedy is on drums.

Family from the musical community such as Alex Maslansky, Amanda Jo Williams, Danielle DeVincenzo, and Lil'Feather
have all shed their talent and love in this band. Hypnotizing, Honest & Heavy.

Dead Dawn is an expression of our beautiful, horrible, colorful, crazy subterranean culture.

Balthazar
Balthazar
You know a band has got something pretty special when they can gain a solid following solely based on a couple of independently released singles. It is even more impressive when they can keep that fan base while completely changing directions on their debut album. Now dubbed "alternative pop", Belgian based Balthazar stands by their change of course leaving those initial electro leaning singles off the album. Bold. Then again it is also pretty bold to name your debut album Applause.

In a move that guaranteed total control, Balthazar decided to self-produce Applause which took a total of four years to complete. The entire album is heavily reliant on drum and bass with a focus on steady groove. Singles like "The Boatman" and "Hunger at the Door" exemplify the band's passion for addictive beats.

Drawing comparisons to Gorillaz and Cake and having recently toured with the Joy Formidable as well as legendary Belgian rock band dEUS, the future looks bright for Balthazar. Currently working on their second album, it should be interesting to hear what surprises Balthazar has in store next.
