Mermaed is an alt/pop band with songs that reflect their love for the 90s & 00s resulting in pop punk melodies alongside mature rock grooves, with lyrics that invoke the feeling of teen angst and nostalgia.
Cody Lovaas
Cody Lovaas is a no-nonsense songwriter. When he’s got a guitar in hand or he’s behind the mic, he’s all business—he’s atypically studious about the pop music he listens to and draws influence from, and he’s even more serious about breaking any mold critics would try to fit him in. When he wants to relax and hang out with his friends, though, you can find him at the beach, surfboard in hand. And while some might view the seriousness and dedication Cody puts into his songwriting as contrary to his love of the ocean, of catching waves and simply letting go, this perception couldn’t be more off-base. In fact, it’s this duality that keeps the young star unpretentious and gives his burgeoning career meaning: there’d be no Cody Lovaas, incredibly talented musician, without Cody Lovaas, easygoing SoCal surfer.
Paper Jackets
Songwriter James Mason, previously in pop-tinged rock outfit The Vantage and pop-punk revelers Safety Word Orange, is set to release a self-titled LP with his new band under the name PJKTS. The project, also known as Paper Jackets, emerges from the LA indie pop scene inhabited by producer Ethan Kaufmann -- a driving influence of the band’s electrifying, synth-pop sound. The line-up consists of Emily Dickinson on keyboard, Jonny Vesely on guitar, Miles Franco on bass and Michael Diguglielmo on drums with Mason on vocals. The five teamed up in Silver Lake, CA to record the band’s first full length record, a forty-five minute set of songs that weaves the singer’s natural emotive voice into Kauffman’s slick production in his East Hollywood studio dubbed “The Elephant in the Room.” Affected by artists such as Sky Ferreira, BØRNS, Father John Misty, and Walk the Moon, PJKTS offers today’s pop listener a fist full of glitter amid the layers of their pop inspired sound, memorable hooks and catchy phrases from start to finish.
