Heaps n Heaps
Heaps n Heaps
Heaps n Heaps are an alternative rock band based out of Los Angeles, California.

The band's first EP, Dancing on the Moon was engineered, mixed, and released by the band and was accompanied by a successful headlining release show at the Troubadour in November of 2013. Owl Magazine wrote on the release: “Heaps N Heaps are the warming, warbling, California answer rendered for the indie fan seeking beyond the horizons of The Lumineers and Of Monsters And Men. In celebration of the release of first EP Dancing On The Moon, Heaps N Heaps will hit their hometown Troubadour in Los Angeles for a night of huddled harmonies immersed in sweet, winding folk plucking.”

Following a March tour that included the band's first trip to SXSW, they desperately wanted to lock themselves up and record new music which would would better reflect what they were doing live, so they did just that. The band spent their summer days in their rehearsal studio writing, recording, drinking, fighting, hugging, playing, eating a lot of Chinese food and for the first time, the entire band jammed, wrote, and collaborated together on their new material. The band wrote over 20 songs and whittled them down to the 6 that would make up their second EP, Like No One's Around. They then sent a long shot email to the Polish surreal artist, Pawel Kuczynski, asking if he'd be interested in painting an original one of his classic satirical pseudo-political pieces, which he gladly did to the band's astonishment. In an email to Kuczynski on the album's art conception, Moon said,

“This album contains politics but isn't necessary political. It has love but isn't a love story. It has battles that aren't restricted to any particular war. It is a satirical abstraction at times, and a serious cry at others. It is light and heavy, young and old. It is relentless until it is completely vulnerable. Every song is from the perspective of 'you, I, or we.' It is our dance, our love, our distraction, our fight. It is our movement going on and on like no one's around.”

Heaps n Heaps have drawn comparisons to The Kills, Cold War Kids, Fleetwood Mac, Alabama Shakes and Spoon among others. They have also named inspirations that range from the Rolling Stones to Radiohead from the Strokes to Bob Dylan, from Etta James to Bon Iver but as much as they respect and love the artists who have come before them, Heaps n Heaps float in a spectrum of harmonizing originality and soul. They exist and aim to thrive in their own raw space, refusing to have it any other way.
