Maxi Wild
Maxi Wild
Maxi Wild is a feisty as hell electronica singer, songwriter and producer. Her music can best be described as irresistibly catchy, beat driven and laced with cheeky yet pertinent lyrics that touch on subjects such as, growing up on a council estate (the British equivalent of US tenement projects) in London and the annoying guy who talks too loud at the bar.

Growing up in Woolwich, South East London wasn’t easy. Spending most of her early years as a runaway she was full of determination and drive, knowing since the age of 9 that all she wanted to do was write and perform music. Maxi ended up attending the BRIT school aged 14 where she stayed until she was thrown out at age 17. During which she was recruited by manager Joe Chibley and was soon working with the likes of the Beat Masters (Betty Boo, The Shamen) and Chris Corner (IAMX, Sneaker Pimps).

Despite being kicked out of every school attended, she managed to infiltrate the prestigious Kingston University to study sound recording and production. From there she fled her destitute beginnings in London to embark on a West Coast tour of the US with Novocain who recruited her to front the band. It wasn’t a tough choice and Maxi decided to move to LA permanently in 2006. Upon arrival she quickly knuckled down to begin writing new material and then sought out a drummer and bassist to complete her live line up. Four years on she has made a huge splash on the Hollywood music scene playing regular slots at Club Moscow, Cinespace and the Downtown Los Angeles Artwalk.
Thurlow
Thurlow
Thurlow is comprised of husband and wife duo, Jacqueline Caruso and Augustus Green. The couple began honing their musical skills together five years ago on the East Coast, but are now based in the burgeoning LA neighborhood of Highland Park, where theyʼve joined forces to create their own brand of lo-fi indie pop with a DIY aesthetic.
Thurlow are currently in the midst of releasing their Walking Hearts single, a collection of warm melodic indie electro-pop confections showcasing a breadth of influences ranging from The Beatles, Portishead, and Broadcast to their life long love affairs with blues and jazz. Effortlessly blending strains of pop and electro beats, along with divergent vocal harmonies, Thurlow generate a layered and textured sonic soundscape with uniquely structured songs, while still maintaining the pop sensibilities they know stand the test of time. This combined with a songbook of tracks musing on the trials of love and life gives their sound a heartfelt and personal quality.
Their varying backgrounds unite to aid the development of their distinct sound; with Jacqueline's roots in classical piano and musical theater, which she studied at American University, contrasting Augustus' lifelong exploration of electronic music, synthesis, sound design and music production. The title track of their Walking Hearts EP highlights the strengths that Green and Caruso bring to the duo. With Greenʼs intricate sound design and Carusoʼs mesmerizing melodies, Walking Hearts proves that this duo is one to watch.
Having shared the stage with the likes of Barcelona, The Heligoats, and The Sweet Hurt, Thurlow recently returned from their first West Coast tour with Zaptra in November in support of their first EP, Spokes, available on bandcamp and itunes, as well as the new Walking Hearts EP.
"Husband and wife Augustus Green and Jacqueline Caruso as Thurlow make friendly guitar/keyboard melodies. Then they add Carusoʼs soaring, take-notice vocals and instantly bring them to a whole new, beautifully unique, level. They share the mic on the debut Spokes EP, but it is always a perfect combination of a little bit sci-fi and an overflowing ton of sunshine." ~ YVYNYL, Philadelphia
